kiana mosley… artist

Kiana is an emerging artist born in Hawaii and raised in Southern California, but now resides in the beautiful Pacific Northwest. She is a lifelong, self taught and mentored artist, and studied as a Graphic design major at OSU.

Visual art, performance art and music has always been an integral part of her life and upbringing, as the daughter of late artist Daniel Keiser, , and niece of the late Randy California of the 60's rock band SPIRIT (to name a couple) . After a major catharsis in 2008, she fully dedicated herself to cultivating a career in the arts. Her life experience, paired with an unquenchable thirst for creativity and experimentation, truly allows her to work within many style genres and with varying mediums.

Artist statement:

Inspiration truly comes from everywhere, and I am inundated constantly with color and imagery in both waking life and lucid dreams... My current work reflects inspiration and affinity for nature and how the abstract color field and expressionist styles apply to the subject matter. I truly became fond of watercolors after experimenting with "staining" styles of work with oil and acrylic - the fluidity, the unforgiving and yet "happy" accidents that seemed to occur when working with it...

I begin each piece, sometimes with certain intention - yet, I want to allow the paint the freedom to take on life of its own, unrestrained even from the confines of my brush or fingers...

I often paint with music, and I say "with" because my emotional response to auditory sounds plays a major role in the process of the work...

Although I paint within various mediums, style and subject matter, I tend to gravitate toward growth and creation - positive and uplifting artists and works, because sometimes reality isn't so... so I consciously choose a place of serenity and peace... because what better way to center one's self and positively affect the lives of others, when we re-connect with nature... it is a strong reminder of our origin...

recently Kiana's unique interpretation of the watercolor gardenscape, and abstract pieces have garnered some attention in the online art world and maker-movement with features in artist/curator Danielle Krysa's blog The Jealous Curator, Lesley Frenz of the Artsy Forager, and Justina Blakeney - to name a few

she has also partnered with maker oriented platforms such as Scoutmob, Ugallery, The Handmade Directory at I am the lab and has licenced current works with McGaw Graphics
